Biography

Jill is the current harp tutor for Music Generation Waterford and Waterford City Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann. Jill is the director of three harp ensembles and two Irish traditional music ensembles for Music Generation Waterford. She is also a co-director for Music Generation Ireland’s Harp Collective. The Collective is a national harp ensemble consisting of young harpers from Music Generation Laois, Louth, Mayo and Waterford.

Jill has performed for a number of noted guests including Prince Albert II of Monaco, King Charles and Queen Camilla, Paul Brady and Michael Flatley. Jill has recently performed in Edinburgh, Monte Carlo, Spain, Italy and at the Milwaukee Irish Fest in the United States. Jill is a member of the Comhaltas National Folk Orchestra of Ireland and has performed across the country at various events. She has performed as part of PRISM for Waterford’s Spraoi Festival, which consisted of a large-scale, outdoor art installation structure and temporary performance space. Jill has recently performed with the Music Generation Waterford Senior Harp Ensemble under her own direction in conjunction with the MTU Cork School of Music Symphony Orchestra. This performance combined Irish traditional harp arrangements with orchestral accompaniment.

Jill began her journey on the harp at the age of 5. She completed her exams with the Royal Irish Academy of Music at the age of 17 and she soon attended the South East Technological University in Waterford Ireland where she completed her Bachelor of Arts degree in Music. Jill was awarded the Bridget Doolan Memorial Music Award for her contribution to music at SETU. She was also awarded a Diploma in Performance with the London College of Music. In 2023 she received her Masters degree in Irish Traditional Music Performance at the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance, University of Limerick. At UL, Jill received tuition from leading musicians Laoise Kelly, Gráinne Hambly, Michael Rooney and Donal Lunny. Jill completed the I Teach Trad Online Course for Harp Tutors under the tuition of Liz Doherty. This course focused on professional development for Irish traditional harp tutors. She received a diploma from University College Dublin in Digital Marketing.

In 2024 Jill released her debut album ‘Tales From the Harp’ with the Celtic Harp International Academy.

  • Jill provides harp music for public, private and corporate events. She has previously performed in venues including Waterford Castle, Dublin Castle, House of Waterford Crystal, Kildare Village, Mount Juliet and the James Joyce Centre. She has performed at festivals at a national and international level, including Electric Picnic, Fuddlefest in County Wexford and Milwaukee Irish Fest in the United States. Jill provides music for a wide range of events including weddings, civil ceremonies, receptions, event launches and festivals.

  • Jill currently teaches harp throughout Waterford City and County. Tuition is available for both children and adults starting at a beginner level and up. Jill is the harp tutor for both Music Generation Waterford and Waterford City Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann. She also directs three harp ensembles and two Irish traditional music ensembles with Music Generation Waterford.

    Jill also teaches workshops both in Ireland and abroad. She teaches workshops annually at Tionol harp and pipes festival in Portlaoise. She has also taught masterclasses at the Milwaukee Irish Fest Summer School in the United States, the Celtic Harp International Academy in Italy and at the Creative Connexions Festival in Sitges.

  • Jill performs with Jane Meehan as a fiddle and harp duo. They met while studying for their Masters in Irish Traditional Music Performance at the University of Limerick. In 2022 they travelled to the United States to perform at Milwaukee Irish Fest and performed with Emma Langford, We Banjo 3, Tulua, and opened for singer Shane Hennessy. In 2023 they released their debut single ‘Annie’s Favourite’ which has featured on radio stations both in Ireland and abroad. In 2024 they released their debut self titled EP.
